Summer is the time of longer warmer days, sundresses, and the sounds of music catching your ear.
May through June, every Wednesday from 12:00pm – 1:00pm at the Town Square Pavilion, Carbondale holds the Brown Bag Concert, one of the regions longest-running events. The public concerts are free and run on each Wednesday in May and June from noon to 1 p.m. Bring some snacks and lawn chairs.
I remember taking a long lunch hour during the work day and heading downtown for a fantastic break in the day. The only problem is that it made it that much harder to go back to work!
Catch an early dinner at our favorite restaurant Global Gourmet, then work your way to one of the SIU Sunset Concerts. The free concerts happen each Thursday at 7 p.m. between mid June through July, alternating venues between the beautiful Shryock Lawn and Turley Park. This is a spectacular open air event where you can just let your hair down and enjoy a beautiful music filled summer evening. Afterwards, finish off your night at one of the Carbondale hot spots, Public Underground Farm to Table Restaurant, or Buckwater Brew and Whiskey House where every Thursday is $3 craft pints and sometimes, some pretty awesome jazz.
The Shawnee Hills Wine Trail
There is always something happening on the Shawnee Hills Wine Trail and it isn’t hard to find some good music on any Friday, Saturday, or Sunday at the wineries. Many of the award winning wineries have music on the weekends even during winter.
If you are looking for some quiet, lingering afternoons, weekdays is where it’s at on the wine Trail. Blue Sky Vineyard, StarView Vineyards, Alto Pass Vineyard and so many more is where you can enjoy longer wine tastings and quiet conversation on those slower relaxing days.
